American Horror Story: Cult is the seventh season of the FX horror anthology series American Horror Story.

Veteran cast members include Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Cheyenne Jackson, with Billie Lourd and Alison Pill making their debut. Veteran cast members with recurring appearances include Adina Porter, John Carroll Lynch, Frances Conroy, Mare Winningham, Emma Roberts, Chaz Bono, James Morosini and Jamie Brewer. This is the fourth season that is not strictly anthological, with Carroll Lynch reprising his previous role as Twisty the Clown from Freak Show.

Allyson "Ally" Mayfair-Richards (portrayed by Sarah Paulson) is a liberal woman from New York who suffers from anxiety as well as several crippling fears, including coulrophobia, hemophobia, and trypophobia, but is being treated by psychiatrist Dr. Vincent. She is a joint owner of a restaurant called "The Butchery on Main" with her wife, Ivy, and together they have a son called Ozzy. Although she lived a relatively normal life and had her fears under control, the election of Donald Trump deeply upset her and triggered her anxiety, phobias, and paranoia. Following the election, she is attacked several times by clowns, although it is unclear whether the attacks actually happened or were hallucinations. As a result of Ally and Ivy's stressful schedule, they hire Winter to babysit Ozzy. Whilst Ally and Ivy have their date night interrupted by an attack, which only Ally sees, their neighbours (the Changs) are brutally murdered, causing Ally's paranoia to worsen. When their new neighbours move in, Ally is at first wary but grows fonder to them. One night, the alarm at her restaurant forces Ally to check what has triggered it and discovers one of her employees dying after being attacked in the freezer. She tried to save him, but unintentionally kills him in the process. Leading to Ivy's growing concern which is further developed by her discovery that Ally is not taking her medication. It also causes Ally to bar her windows and doors and borrow a gun from her neighbours, the former of which is the subject of an argument with Kai, who she previously met as he poured coffee on her. Later that night, whilst Ivy is working at the restaurant, Ally is seduced by Winter in the bathtub, which is hastily cut short by the electricity going out and another clown attack. Due to her panic, fear and vulnerability (as Winter has left the house) Ally grabs Ozzy and tries to run to the nearest neighbours' house. Before they can leave, a sudden movement causes Ally to shoot at a figure, which turns out to be one of the restaurant employees that Ivy has sent to help her, Pedro.
