Deacon Ernest Frye (Sherman Hemsley) hires a new minister, Reverend Reuben Gregory (Clifton Davis), for the First Community Church of Philadelphia, and the two argue over a young basketball player's future.

Thelma is reluctant to attend her high school reunion, until Frye convinces the Reverend to be her escort; meanwhile, Frye helps Amelia with an IRS audit.
