12 Monkeys is an American television series on Syfy created by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett. It is a science fiction mystery drama based on the 1995 film of the same name, directed by Terry Gilliam, which itself was based on Chris Marker's 1962 short film La Jetée. The series premiered on January 16, 2015.

As of May 21, 2017,^[update] 36 episodes of 12 Monkeys have aired, concluding the third season. A fourth and final 10-episode season was announced on March 16, 2017, for release in 2018.

The fourth season finale will be titled "The Beginning", and will serve as the series finale.
