Lincoln Public Schools is the only public school district in Lincoln, Nebraska, United States. It is the second largest of Nebraska's 596 school districts, surpassed only by Omaha Public Schools. LPS educates more than 40,000 students in 57 schools.
The current superintendent is Steve Joel, who was elected in March 2010. He was the superintendent of Grand Island Public Schools.
As of 2010, students of Lincoln Public Schools speak 52 languages. This is due to Lincoln being a destination of many refugees, who have settled there since the U.S. Government declared Lincoln a refugee-friendly city in the 1970s.
