Lake Butler is a city in Union County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,897 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Union County.

A post office called Lake Butler has been in operation since 1860. The city was named for Robert Butler, an acting governor of East Florida.

Lake Butler is located at 30°1′18″N 82°20′27″W / 30.02167°N 82.34083°W / 30.02167; -82.34083 (30.021681, -82.340960).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km2), of which 1.7 square miles (4.4 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (6.01%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,927 people, 723 households, and 508 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,121.2 people per square mile (432.6/km²). There were 832 housing units at an average density of 484.1/sq mi (186.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 64.50% White, 31.81% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 1.19% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.68% of the population.
