KanishkaKushan Nandy, known to all as Kushan Nandy (born 1972) is an Indian film producer, writer and director. He produces films under the banner of the current entertainment house Movies by the Mob. Son of acclaimed poet, journalist Pritish Nandy, Kushan started off young as a direction assistant in Hindi movies and Ad films with UTV and learnt the craft hands on. He turned independent director in television, went onto making documentaries, music videos and Ad films following which he turned his focus onto his passion of directing feature films. His forthcoming venture is the Hindi feature film Babumoshai Bandookbaaz starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead.
Kushan was born in Kolkata to a family rich in creative heritage with a strong holding in culture and education. He was educated at La Martiniere College but his heart was always in the world outside of the window of his class room. He roamed the rare book stalls of college street, the auditoriums of Gorky Sadan, Nandan and Max Muller Bhavan. Creating stories for the silver screen was his dream from childhood.
Kushan started off young as a direction assistant in movies and Ad films with UTV and learnt the craft hands on. He turned independent director in television for Doordarshan, Zee TV and Shahra TV. He went onto making documentaries, music videos and Ad films following which he turned his focus onto his passion of directing Hindi feature film. His first feature film 88 Antop Hill, had national award winners like Atul Kulkarni and Hari Nair, was very well received. Followed by Humdum which received appreciation at various film festivals in India and overseas. Following this the free spirited Kushan traveled overseas, produced and directed documentaries and short films for International partners in North America, Hong Kong and United Kingdom. Currently his upcoming Hindi feature film Babumoshai Bandookbaaz starring the versatile Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all gearinge up for a release in 2017.
Kushan lives in Mumbai with his family, a library of rare collections of movies, some gramophone records and his dogs. When he is not thinking movies, he is at film festivals, travelling the world or sketching on the storyboard for his next venture.
