Ko Ji-yong (born July 1, 1980) was a member of Sechs Kies, a famous South Korean dance music group from the late 90's which disbanded in 2000 but came in 2016. On April 14, 2016, Sechs Kies held a long-awaited reunion concert 16 years after their disbandment through the popular program Infinite Challenge. After their comeback, Sechs Kies members have signed a contract with YG Entertainment except for Ko Ji-yong, who is now a family man and CEO of his own company. However, Ko Ji-yong has stated that he is a current member of SECHSKIES and will participate in activities as long as his current work and family life permits. In November 2016, Ko Ji-yong decided to join the KBS show, "The Return of Superman", to keep his promise with his fans to participate in opportunities for them to see him again.
Ko Ji-yong debuted on April 15, 1997 with a six-member dance music group, Sechs Kies. Ko Ji-yong told his childhood friend, Kang Sung-hun, that he wanted to be a singer. Therefore, Kang Sung-hun chose him as a member to join the group.
Until the time the group disbanded in 2000, he was greatly loved by fans for his handsome looks and singing voice. Unlike other members, he did not continue his career as a solo singer but he was cast as a host in an internet broadcast and an actor in television drama. However, Ko Ji-yong chose to leave the entertainment industry to start his own business.
In 2008, fellow SechsKies member and leader Eun Ji-won appeared in the entertainment program "Come to Play" and remarked that he had not seen Ko Ji-yong since the disbandment.
In 2016, Sechs Kies finally reunited after their disbandment in 2000 through a famous Korean variety TV show called Infinite Challenge. Ko Ji-yong, who had left the entertainment business permanently after the disbandment to pursue a new career, surprised the members of SechsKies as well as all the fans by appearing in the reunion concert. After Infinite Challenge aired, SechsKies earned many more fans; their hit songs ranked high in music charts and “Couple” was seen in 11th place in Music Bank.
On May 11, the group concluded an exclusive contract with YG, along with the news that Sechs Kies would have a comeback but due to personal reasons, Ko Ji-yong did not join. However, Ko Ji-yong never announced that he departed from SechsKies.
On July 18, Ko Ji-yong made a public appearance as a sponsor for a charity basketball event and held interviews with the media for the first time in 16 years. He stated that he is now living as a half-celebrity after Infinite Challenge has aired. Although there are difficulties arising from his work schedule, he is willing to participate in activities as a current member of SechsKies.
