Kinston is a town in Coffee County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 540. It is part of the Enterprise Micropolitan Statistical Area.
On March 10, 2009, in the Alabama towns of Kinston, Samson and Geneva, Michael McLendon went on a shooting rampage, killing ten people and wounding six more before committing suicide.
Kinston is located in the southwest corner of Coffee County at 31°13′14″N 86°10′15″W / 31.22056°N 86.17083°W (31.220503, -86.170782).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.9 square miles (12.7 km2), of which 0.02 square miles (0.06 km2), or 0.49%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 602 people, 257 households, and 168 families residing in the town. The population density was 123.4 people per square mile (47.6/km²). There were 309 housing units at an average density of 63.4 per square mile (24.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.52% White, 0.17% Black or African American, 1.16% Native American, 0.17% Asian, and 4.98% from two or more races. 0.33% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
