Key position

In the sport of Australian rules football, a "key position player" refers to players that play in the main forward or defensive roles. These make up what is known as the "spine" of a team. Key positions on an Australian rules field are usually deemed to be centre half-forward, full-forward, centre half-back and full-back.

Key position players (KPPs) are usually tall and strongly built. Some KPPs include Wayne Carey, Matthew Scarlett, Barry Hall and Glen Jakovich.
