Kevin K. McAleenan is an American attorney and government official. Since January 20, 2017, he has served as the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He is President Donald Trump's nominee to assume this position in a permanent capacity. McAleenan's nomination has been supported by a number of officials from both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations, a number of whom signed a letter to Congress expressing "enthusiastic support" for the "supremely qualified" McAleenan. President Trump officially submitted the nomination to the Senate on May 22. The U.S. Senate confirmed McAleenan's nomination on March 19, 2018, by a vote of 77–19. He was sworn in on March 20, 2018.
Prior to becoming acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, he served as Deputy Commissioner of the same agency from 2014 to 2017. Prior to heing appointed Deputy Commissioner of CBP, He was the Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Field Operations. McAleenan has also served as the Area Port Director of Los Angeles International Airport.
