KY 196 begins at the entrance to the Lake Cumberland 4-H Center, which is located between bends of the Cumberland River at a point south-southeast of Jabez, within Wayne County and the Eastern Time Zone. In Faubush, it intersects the southern terminus of KY 3262 (Faubush Road). KY 196 heads to the east and crosses over Sputter Branch. In Burnetta, it intersects the northern terminus of KY 1664.
