Karen Schweers Cook is an American sociologist and the Ray Lyman Wilbur Professor of Sociology at Stanford University, where she is also Vice-Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity and the director of the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences.

Before becoming a member of the Stanford faculty in 1998, Cook was a department chair at the University of Washington and then the James B. Duke Professor of Sociology at Duke University. At Stanford, she is the Ray Lyman Wilbur Professor of Sociology at Stanford University, Vice-Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity and the director of the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences.

Cook has been elected to the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. She received the Cooley-Mead Award from the American Sociological Association in 2004.

Cook is a co-editor of the Annual Review of Sociology. She is a past president of the Pacific Sociological Association and a former vice president of the International Institute of Sociology and the American Sociological Association. She was named to the Russell Sage Foundation Board of Trustees in 2012.
