Kanmadam (English literal meaning: Viscous Rock) is a 1998 Malayalam musical-drama film written and directed by A. K. Lohithadas, starring Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Lal, and Mala Aravindan while K. P. A. C. Lalitha and Siddique appear in guest roles. The music was composed by Raveendran while the background score was by S. P. Venkatesh. The cinematography was handled by Ramachandra Babu and the editing was by A. Sreekar Prasad. The film was produced and distributed by Mohanlal's production company Pranavam Arts.
A thug, Vishwanathan, leaves the city ( Bombay) to the village in Kerala where a deceased man named Damodaran lived. Damodaran's grandmother was waiting for her grandson's return, unaware of his death. Vishwanathan helps Damodaran's family by paying their debts from a bank and also from some local people and thus saves their small home and its surroundings from being auctioned for not clearing the debt. He eventually falls in love with a high-tempered young woman named Bhanu ( Damodaran's sister) before his best friend Johny came for him. But Vishwanathan had to reveal the truth to Bhanu that, he and his friend Johny accidentally killed Damodaran. A series of events that follows causes misunderstanding between Vishwanathan and Johny, and they become enemies of each other. Later Johny realizes his mistakes and they both understand each other. Damodaran's family agrees to marry Suma to Johny and Bhanu to Vishwanathan.
