Kalaiya is a Sub-metropolitan city and headquarters of Bara District in the Narayani Zone of south-eastern Nepal. It was about to be declared sub-metropolitan city but proposal was declined as it doesn't meets requirement. Also, it lies in central development region. At the time of the 2017 Nepal census it had a population of 1,23659 residing in 28645 individual households. People often visit this place because it is the gateway to the great Gadhi Mai temple. And kalaiya is famous for Sekuwa and Bhaja(chatpate). And it is the spot for some other historic importance like Simraungadh.
