KKCO, virtual channel 11 (digital channel 12), is the NBC-affiliated television station in the Grand Junction/Montrose, Colorado market. The station is owned by Gray Television.
KKCO signed on the air on May 5, 1996; prior to then, NBC had been available by way of off-hours clearance on KREX-TV, as well as on cable from Denver stations (KCNC-TV prior to 1995 and KUSA-TV from 1995 to 1996). KKCO was owned by Eagle III Broadcasting L.L.C. from 1996 to 2005.
Soon after signing on, KKCO's newscast shot to the top of the ratings, past longer-established KREX and KJCT.
In September 2006, its DT2 subcarrier became the area's new affiliate for The CW Television Network. Sometime in late 2008 KKCO-DT dropped the CW affiliation when KJCT-TV picked up the CW. KKCO has been digital-only since February 17, 2009.
