Justin Hurwitz is an American composer and screenwriter, known for scoring the film La La Land. He also scored Damien Chazelle's two other features, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench and Whiplash.
For La La Land, he won the Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (for "City of Stars'), and is currently nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and three Academy Awards: Best Original Score and Best Original Song twice (for "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" and "City of Stars").
Hurwitz attended Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin. Hurwitz met director Chazelle in Harvard University playing in the same band, then became roommates, and went on to collaborate on a student film which would become Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench.
