Julia Keleher is a businesswoman and consultant and the current Secretary of Education of Puerto Rico.
Keleher earned her BA in political science and MS Ed in psychological services from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her MBA in June 2013 and received an EdD in Educational Administration and Leadership from the University of Delaware.
Keheler was an adjunct professor at George Washington University. She has worked with the Puerto Rico Department of Education since 2007, when she worked as a federal functionary to assist in the development of Title I programs and later on in an office responsible for ensuring the compliance of Puerto Rico with the use of federal funds.
Before being appointed Secretary, Keheler founded the management consulting firm Keleher & Associates.
Keleher was named Secretary of Education of Puerto Rico on January 2, 2017 under the administration of Governor of Puerto Rico Ricardo Rosselló. Since her appointment, the Department of Education has consolidated and closed 167 public schools with the purpose of restructuring the public education system, and cutting close to $7 million in expenses because of the Puerto Rican government-debt crisis.
