Joseph Macmanus was appointed the new U.S. Ambassador to International Organizations in Vienna in 2012, with 26 years experience as a diplomat behind him.
In March 2013, he came to international attention when he accused Iran of deception at a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Authority and then, with the Canadian, Australian and New Zealand envoys, stormed out of the meeting after Iran criticised Israel.
