John R. Settle (born June 2, 1965 in Reidsville, North Carolina), is currently the running backs coach for the Wisconsin Badgers. He is also a former professional American football player. A 5'9", 207-lb. undrafted running back from Appalachian State University, Settle attended Rockingham County High School and played for the Atlanta Falcons from 1987 to 1990. During the 1988 NFL season, he was selected as a first team All-Pro and to the 1988 Pro Bowl after rushing for a career high 1,024 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was the first undrafted running back in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.
Settle is the running backs coach for the University of Wisconsin. While at Appalachian State, Settle was a founding member of the Pi Nu chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
