Joanna Jędrzejczyk (Polish pronunciation: [jɔˈanna jɛnˈdʐɛjt͡ʂɨk] /yo-AN-nah yen-JREY-chik/, born August 18, 1987) is a Polish mixed martial artist (MMA) who competes in the women's strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. She is the UFC Women's Strawweight Champion and the third European champion in UFC history after Bas Rutten in 1999, and Andrei Arlovski in 2005. As of July 22, 2016: she is the consensus #1 female strawweight, and #1 pound-for-pound female MMA fighter in the world. She is also currently the #7 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC mixed gender rankings, making her the top female on the list. She is also a six-time world champion and four-time European champion in Muay Thai.
Due to her surname being difficult to pronounce, Jędrzejczyk doesn't have an official nickname like other fighters. Fans and the media have instead given her unofficial nicknames, such as: JJ, Joanna Champion.
Joanna Jędrzejczyk was born in Olsztyn, Poland. She has a twin sister, Katarzyna Jędrzejczyk, and one older sister. She is engaged to Polish native Przemysław Buta. She discovered Muay Thai as a teenager, while taking up fitness, which eventually led her to competitions.
Jędrzejczyk competed in Muay Thai for 10 years, winning 70 matches and six world championships and four European championships. She has a professional kickboxing record of 27 wins and 2 losses and an amateur kickboxing record of 37 wins and 3 losses.
