James "Jimmy" Hoey was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1920s, and 1930s playing, at representative level for England, and at club level for Widnes, as Centre, or Second-row, i.e. number 3 or 4, or 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.

Jimmy Hoey won a cap for England while at Widnes in 1930 against Other Nationalities.

Jimmy Hoey played in Widnes' 10-3 victory over St. Helens in the 1930 Challenge Cup Final during the 1929–30 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 3 May 1930 in front of a crowd of 36,544.
