Jiří Drahoš (born February 20, 1949) is a Czech physical chemist and politician who served as President of the Czech Academy of Sciences from 2009 to 2017. In March 2017, Drahoš announced his candidacy for President of the Czech Republic in the 2018 election.
Drahoš studied University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague. He became scientist in 1972. He joined the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals at Czech Academy of Sciences. He was its Chairman in 1996-2003. On 13 March 2009 Drahoš became Chairman of the Czech Academy of Sciences. His term ended in March 2017. He was reported to consider candidature for Czech president in 2018 and said that he would announce his decision after the end of his term at the Academy of Sciences. His possible presidential bid received support from members of at least 3 parties - Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party, Mayors and Independents and TOP 09.
