JetSmart is an ultra low-cost Chilean airline created by US investment fund Indigo Partners, which also controls US airline Frontier Airlines, Mexico's Volaris and Hungarian airline Wizz Air. Its primary base of operations is Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport, in Santiago, Chile. The airline commenced scheduled operations on 25 July 2017 with a Santiago-Calama service.
JetSmart requested an AOC (Air Operator Certificate) on 26 January 2017 and received the authorization in June 2017. Initially, they will fly with 2 Airbus A320ceo, before transitioning the fleet to new A320neo. Initially flying only domestic routes, the airline intends to subsequently expand to the South American market.
JetSMART aims to operate up to 10 aircraft in the 2018 period, and is challenging Sky and LATAM Chile in nearly every market that it aims to introduce between July and October 2017.
