Kristian Jebsen (founder) |
Kristian Jebsens Rederi usually known as Jebsens was a short sea liner shipping company founded in 1929. Operations were ceased i 1993 when the company merged its operations with Paal Wilson & Co to form Jebsen Wilson Euro Carriers. The company was founded and owned by Kristian Jebsen until his death in 1967 and based in Bergen, Norway.
Jebsens was founded in 1929 by Kristian Jebsen (1901–1967), starting out with a 2,400 tonnes deadweight (DWT) steam ship that operates on North Sea trade. By World War II the company was operating four vessels, but all four were lost in the war. After the war the company went into short sea lining and tankers. Among the largest customers were National Lead's subsidiaries Kronos-Titan and Titania as well as Norsk Jernverk. By 1980 Jebsens was operating 27 ships in the 3,500 DWT to 7,500 DWT class. But the harsh years for shipping during the 1980s gave the company financial difficulties, forcing the company to merge its operating division with Paal Wilson & Co in 1993, creating Jebsen Wilson Euro Carriers. At first a joint venture, in 1995 Jebsens bough out Paal Wilson & Co, just to be bought by the same company two years later. The heritage exists today as part of Wilson ASA.
