Jay Dean is a Republican politician who represents District 7 in the Texas House of Representatives.

Dean served seven years as a city councilman and then ten years as mayor of Longview, Texas, ending his term on May 15, 2016.

In the 2016 primary election for Texas's 7th District, Dean campaigned for the Republican nomination on a platform of border security, job creation, and protecting East Texas water and other resources.

There was no Democratic opponent to Dean in the general election held November 8, 2016.

While Dean did not formally endorse a candidate in the U.S. presidential race, he stated he was "going to stick with my party", and that "Donald Trump has won the nomination of the party, and I definitely will be voting Republican".

Dean has called himself a "social conservative". He is pro-life, and strongly supports the Second Amendment, stating that the crime rate drops when less gun control exists. As mayor of Longview, Dean refused to sign a proclamation for LGBT "pride." In 2014, the city of Longview broke a contract with singer Ted Nugent to perform at Longview's Fourth of July concert, Mayor Dean stating that Nugent "didn’t really fit what we trying to put together, a family oriented program" after Nugent called Barack Obama a "subhuman mongrel."

Dean was born in Opelousas, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree.

Jay and his wife Jane "Pokie" moved to Longview in 1981.

Dean is active in his church. The Deans have three children.
