Jared Rittenhouse Boll (born May 13, 1986) is an American professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He formerly played for 9 seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, known primarily for his role as an enforcer.
Boll was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois. He attended Prairie Ridge High School and left after sophomore year.
Boll was originally drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs, but chose to attempt playing in U.S. college, by playing for the Lincoln Stars. While there he was named captain of the Stars. After a very successful 2nd year in the USHL, he was offered a deal to play in the NCAA at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He decided against it to play in the Ontario Hockey League. His rights were acquired by the Plymouth Whalers in a trade for their 6th Round OHL Priority Selection draft pick in 2006. Boll was named an alternate captain of the Whalers and was a fan favorite, as he was in Lincoln, spending two seasons with the Whalers and helping the team win the 2007 OHL Championship over the Sudbury Wolves on his 21st birthday.
Boll was signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets and started on the team for the 2007–08 season, scoring his first NHL goal on October 10, 2007 on a breakaway against the Phoenix Coyotes.
Appearing in 75 games for Columbus during the 2008–09 NHL season, Boll scored 4 goals to go with 10 assists.
