Jamie Earl Williams (born February 25, 1960) is a former professional American football tight end who played for 12 seasons in the National Football League, mainly for the Houston Oilers and the San Francisco 49ers.
Williams played football, basketball, and track at Davenport Central High School in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in 1977. Nebraska was the only college to offer him a scholarship for both football and basketball, and he therefore accepted, continuing on to play 4 years of both sports at Nebraska. Williams was a four-year letterwinner and earned All-Big Eight honors in 1981 and 1982.
Williams graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He completed a Masters of Science in Mass Communication at San Jose State University in 1993, and completed a Doctorate of Education in Organization and Leadership, including an emphasis in sports administration, at the University of San Francisco in 2000.
Williams was drafted by the New York Giants and played 12 seasons in the NFL as a tight end, with the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Oilers, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Raiders.
Williams was a huge comic book fan, particularly of Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian; in order to psyche himself up for big games he would visualize himself as one of those heroes.
