James McGrath (born 14 May 1974) is an Australian politician. He was elected to the Australian Senate representing the state of Queensland for the Liberal National Party at the 2013 federal election. He has been an Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister in the First Turnbull Ministry, since September 2015, and Assistant Minister to the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection since February 2016.
McGrath was born in Toowoomba and graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Laws and from the Queensland University of Technology with a Master of Laws. He was admitted as a solicitor and worked as an articled clerk in a legal firm before working with the Queensland Parliamentary Ombudsman between 1999 and 2001. McGrath is a former political strategist and adviser to the former Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and the Deputy Federal Director of the Liberal Party of Australia. Between 2010 and 2012 McGrath was the campaign director for the Liberal National Party and the Country Liberal Party.
