James Mangles (MP)


James Mangles (July 27, 1768 – September 25, 1838) was an English merchant and politician.

The son of Robert Mangles, a ship's chandler in Wapping, he went into his father's business, with his brother John.

Mangles was Member of Parliament for Guildford, from 1831 to 1837. During the 1830s he bought Down Place, Surrey from Edward Turnour, 3rd Earl Winterton.

Mangles married Mary Hughes of Guildford. There were six sons and six daughters of the marriage, with ten surviving to adulthood.
