JVN by Jovani is a fashion brand operating as a partner company to Jovani Fashion with a concentration on the prom, cocktail and evening wear divisions. The brand is targeted towards young girls going to homecoming and prom, while simultaneously targeting women of all ages.
The parent company Jovani Fashion was founded in 1980 by Jacob Maslavi and his sons, Abraham and Saul Maslavi. The company initially started as a 10-person operation, designing and manufacturing 15 styles of dresses for specialty boutiques.
In 1996, Jovani brought on American designer Sherri Hill to assist in the expansion of their prom and pageant market; the designer remained with the fashion house for the next 12 years. Today, Jovani Fashion remains family owned and has grown to a 50-person company. Its website says it serves over 2,000 retailers worldwide. Its retailers include Neiman Marcus.
JVN by Jovani was launched on February 18, 2014 by Saul Maslavi as a partner to the higher end parent company Jovani Fashion.
Under the leadership of head designer Julie DuRocher JVN produces over 300 new designs annually. The collection is currently expanding its emphasis in creating dresses for women of all ages, not just prom and homecoming. The companies different styles can range from classic and conservative to fashion-forward and trendy, as well as simple and elegant.
Actress Danielle Brooks has been known to wear JVN by Jovani. Danielle Brooks is an American actress best known for her role in Orange is the New Black. Danielle was also a Tony Award nominee for her Broadway role in The Color Purple.
In 2013, Jovani partnered with the non-profit organisation Operation PROM to provide prom dresses to underprivileged high school students.
Jovani also makes donations to the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which are used at the annual Pediatric Prom.
