Twenty 4 Seven is a Dutch Eurodance music project, formed in 1989 by producers Ruud van Rijen and Tony Dawson Harrison. The project is most notable for being the first European dance music group to achieve mainstream success with blending female singing choruses with traditional male raps. The group's ground breaking hits ('I Can't Stand It", "Are You Dreaming?") and their debut album ("Street Moves") were massive successes in the UK and The Netherlands. The singles later grew to become Top 5 hits in Europe. After major changes in the group's lineup, the project transitioned into a more mainstream Eurodance sound in 1993 with the hit single "Slave to the Music", the project's most commercially successful single to date. Today the project is fronted by rapper Stacey "Stay-C" Seedorf and singer Li Ann.
Twenty 4 Seven was formed in 1989 by Dutch producer Ruud van Rijen and American producer/rapper/dancer Tony Dawson Harrison. Originally the act consisted of singer Nance Coolen and rapper Ricardo Overman (a.k.a. MC Fixxit). The single "I Can't Stand It" was released early in 1989. After having major business disputes with Van Rijen, Overman decided to leave the project shortly after the release of single. Harrison quickly decided to step out of his producer role and became the new rapper and frontman of the act. He recruited dancers Giovanni Falco (Hanks) and Wolfgang Reiss (Jacks) to be new members of the act in addition to them being backup dancers for the project's live act. A new version of 'I Can't Stand it" was recorded with Harrison's rap vocals. The project name was also modified to 'Twenty 4 Seven feat. Captain Hollywood.' The group's innovative new mixture of traditional male raps and female singing choruses proved to be a massive success in Europe. "I Can't Stand It" charted at No.3 in Israel and at No.7 in the UK. The next single, "Are You Dreaming?" charted at No.17 in the UK. In 1990, Street Moves, the project's debut album, was released and also became a massive success. By 1991, Harrison had decided to leave the act to front his own music project called Captain Hollywood Project. Despite Harrison's departure from the group of the single 'I Can't Stand It" remained strong throughout Europe. The single was chosen to be a part of film soundtrack for the 1991 film Dying Young starring Julia Roberts. After Harrison's departure, Twenty 4 Seven remained dormant for two years.
