Iona is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,756 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Iona is located at 26°31′N 81°58′W / 26.517°N 81.967°W (26.510,-81.959), just northeast of the causeway to Sanibel Island.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.2 square miles (26 km2), of which 7.1 square miles (18 km2) is land and 3.1 square miles (8.0 km2) (30.17%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 11,756 people, 6,023 households, and 3,740 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,648.5 people per square mile (636.6/km²). There were 9,290 housing units at an average density of 1,302.7/sq mi (503.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.47% White, 0.41% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.83% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.94% of the population.
