Iga Railway Iga Line

The Iga Line (伊賀線 Iga-sen?) is a railway line in Iga, Mie, Japan, operated by the private railway operator by Iga Railway Co., Ltd. (伊賀鉄道株式会社 Iga-tetsudō kabushiki-gaisha?). The line connects Iga-Ueno Station with Iga-Kambe Station. The track and trains are owned by Kintetsu Railway, although the trains are operated by Iga Railway.

(9.7 km, closed 1964) Iga-Kambe (伊賀神戸) - Mihata-Shinden (美旗新田) - Nishihara (西原) - Kuramochi (蔵持) - Hatchō (八丁) - Nishi-Nabari (西名張)

The (first) Iga Railway Co. opened the 26 km 1,067 mm gauge line between Iga-Ueno on the Kansai Main Line and Nishi-Nabari in 1922, including a connection at Iga-Kambe station on Kintetsu Osaka Line. The line was electrified at 1,500 V DC in 1926. The company merged with the Osaka Electric Railway Co. in 1929, which in 1944 became Kintetsu.

The Iga-Kambe - Nishi-Nabari section closed in 1964, and freight services ceased on the balance of the line in 1973.

Operation of the line was transferred by Kintetsu to the (second) Iga Railway Co. in 2007.
