The Ice Theatre of New York is a professional figure skating group that performs modern dance choreography on ice. It was founded in 1984 by Moira North, and is currently based at the Chelsea Piers rink complex in New York City. David Liu was appointed Co-Artistic Director for the 2007-2008 season. The company's former directors included Doug Webster and Judy Blumberg.
The Ice Theatre of New York has performed works by dance choreographers such as Lar Lubovitch, Laura Dean, Elisa Monte, and JoAnna Mendl Shaw. Regular performers with the company have included David Liu and Katherine Healy, with guest soloists including skaters such as Emanuel Sandhu, Lucinda Ruh, Yuka Sato, Marina Sanaya, and Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov. The company has received grant funding from National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. In 2005, it was among 406 New York City arts and social service institutions to receive part of a $20 million grant from the Carnegie Corporation, which was made possible through a donation by New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.
