The ILO-Motorenwerke in Pinneberg existed from 1911 to 1990 and were one of the biggest manufacturers of two-stroke engines in Germany.
ILO comes from the Esperanto word for "tool". The name was stylized as JLO in the company logo.
The appended "V" stands for Ventilation, i.e. an additional cooling blower.
