The single proved to be a popular single in the early summer of 1989, reaching #1 on June 17, 1989. The ballad boasted 6 weeks in the Top 10, 8 weeks in the Top 20, and 14 weeks in the Top 40.

Most of the music video for "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" was shot in Xavier High School in New York City. Small parts were filmed on the Williamsburg bridge and the East River.
