The Hutt Valley Lakers were a New Zealand basketball team based in Hutt Valley, Wellington. The Lakers were a National Basketball League (NBL) franchise for seven seasons after being promoted to the NBL in 1990 following their Conference Basketball League (CBL) title in 1989.
Head coach Jeff Green guided the Lakers to two NBL titles in 1991 and 1993. The 1993 final saw Peter Pokai hit the game-winning jump shot to lift the Lakers over the Canterbury Rams. It was a special triumph for Green, who was sensationally sacked early in the season, but brought back with seven games to go.
