Humble, Denmark


Humble is a city on Langeland with about 598 inhabitants as of 2016. Humble is about 12 kilometers north of Bagenkop and 14 kilometers south of Rudkøbing. The city belongs to the Langeland Municipality and is located in Southern Denmark. Humble belongs to Humble Parish. Humble Church is located on a high hill at the north end of town.

Just north of Humble is where a 4,000-year-old tomb, consisting of 70 boundary stones, a large grave, and a mound on top.

6 km northeast of the city is the Skovsgård Gods, owned by Denmark's Nature Fund and are publicly available in the summer. The estate holds servant museum, carriage museum and forestry museum.

The city has a bakery. Humble Inn & Hotel has built seven new rooms in 2008 and can accommodate parties of up to 150 people.

Music Efterskolen in Humble has lots of rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, and a fully equipped orchestra pit to the concert and theater. Schools organize the annual Christmas concerts, gospel concerts, musicals etc. in there.

Humble School was inaugurated in 1960 as Humble Central School.

The town was called Valde Jordebog Humlæthwet, which is composed of two parts: hop, which means plant name, and Tvedestrand, which means deforestation. Thus it means, "deforestation of hops plants". In the late 19th century, Humble had a doctor's house, a grocery store, and a sawmillawmill. Humble Skytteog Forsamlingshus that no longer exists, was founded in 1884. A transcript of the house's first protocol is preserved.
