The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) is an interdisciplinary nonprofit professional organization covering the fields of human factors and ergonomics. It was founded in 1957 and is an organization of professionals devoted to the science of human factors and ergonomics. The society's mission is to promote the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds.

The organization has over 4500 members worldwide.

HFES has 67 active chapters throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, 42 of them student chapters, and 23 technical groups.

Chapters provide forums in which members exchange information and ideas on human factors and ergonomics issues. HFES local chapters hold regular meetings, publish newsletters, sponsor events and special activities, and provide annual reports and business meetings to their group members, as well as to the society at large.

Technical groups are formed by members around common technical and research interests. They provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among experts in the scientific and engineering areas. TGs hold regular meetings, publish newsletters, sponsor local events and special activities, and provide annual reports and business meetings to their members, as well as the society at large.

The society has several student chapters, who organize events and activities for the benefit of students and the public. Student chapters operate under the auspices of HFES and receive support for their activities.
