History of Newcastle United F.C.

Newcastle United is an English professional association football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear. Formed by a merger between Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End in 1892, the club was elected to the Football League, which they entered in 1893.

Newcastle are England's ninth most successful club of all time, four times League champions (in 1905, 1907, 1909 and 1927) and six times FA Cup winners (in 1910, 1924, 1932, 1951, 1952, and 1955). Newcastle have played in England's top league from 1898–1935, 1948–61, 1965–78, 1984–89, 1993–2009 and 2010-2016, playing in the second flight at all other times.
