It is a basal iguanodontian which lived during the Lower Cretaceous period (Upper Barremian-lowermost Aptian age, about 124 million years ago) in what is now Utah, United States. Its type specimen, UMNH VP 20208, is the associated skeleton of a single individual, including a nearly complete skull and partial postcranium. This specimen was recovered from the Yellow Cat Member of the Cedar Mountain Formation, Utah.Hippodraco was named by Andrew T. McDonald, James I. Kirkland, Donald D. DeBlieux, Scott K.
