Hettlingen is a municipality in the district of Winterthur in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland.
Hettlingen is first mentioned in 886 as Hetelinga.
Hettlingen has an area of 5.8 km2 (2.2 sq mi). Of this area, 61.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 21.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 16.1% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.9%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains). In 1996[update] housing and buildings made up 10.7% of the total area, while transportation infrastructure made up the rest (5.8%). Of the total unproductive area, water (streams and lakes) made up 0.2% of the area. As of 2007[update] 13.8% of the total municipal area was undergoing some type of construction.
The municipality is located im the southern Zürcher Weinland.
Hettlingen has a population (as of 31 December 2016) of 3,159. As of 2007[update], 6.6% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. As of 2008[update] the gender distribution of the population was 48.6% male and 51.4% female. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 41.9%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (94.7%), with French being second most common ( 1.0%) and English being third ( 0.9%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 39.1% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP (17.2%), the CSP (13.3%) and the SPS (13.2%).
