Henry Harrison Swan


Henry Harrison Swan (October 2, 1840 – June 12, 1916) was a United States federal judge.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Swan read law to enter the bar in 1867. He was in private practice in California in 1867, and in Detroit, Michigan from 1869 to 1870. He was an assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan from 1870 to 1877. He was in private practice in Detroit, Michigan from 1877 to 1891. He was a non-resident lecturer on admiralty at the University of Michigan Law School from 1893 to 1911.

Swan was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Swan was nominated by President Benjamin Harrison on January 13, 1891, to a seat vacated by Henry Billings Brown. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on January 19, 1891, and received his commission the same day. Swan served in that capacity until July 1, 1911, due to retirement.

He died in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
