The Henley Boat Races are a series of rowing races between crews representing the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. The event takes place on the River Thames at Henley, usually the week before the University Boat Race that is held on the Championship Course in London. The Henley Boat races take place over a 2,000m course, downstream — the opposite direction to the Henley Royal Regatta course — and finish halfway down Temple Island.

The Henley Boat Races continued to enlarge their original event format from purely the Men's Lightweight races in 1975, to incorporating both the Women's Boat Race and their reserve crews from 1977 onwards, and adding the Women's Lightweight Race in 1984. From 2000 until 2009 the Lightweight Men also held a race for their reserve crews Nephthys (Oxford) and Granta (Cambridge). The race of the reserve boats had fallen into abeyance as Cambridge decided not to field a Granta crew. In 2016 Nephthys and Granta faced off racing in 4x- a week prior to the Henley Boat races. A women’s lightweight reserve race is scheduled for the first time on race day for 2016.

The 2013 event was moved to Dorney Lake as a result of flooding on the Thames.

In 2015 the Women's Boat Race moved further down the River Thames to the Tideway to take place on the same course and day as the men's Boat Race and becoming an enlarged form of the race often known as The Boat Races.

The 2016 races included:

The history of the results of the races are as follows.

Raced on the Friday before the main event in a 4+ in 2012, and incorporated into main race day in 2016. Second Team Colours are awarded for the Tethys crew.
