Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection is a 71-track triple disc box set commemorating Michael Jackson's early years with Motown Records. The album features Jackson's four solo LPs from Motown (dating from 1971 to 1975), plus songs that were released after he left the company.
On June 12, 2009, Universal Music Group reissue label Hip-O Select announced on its Twitter page that the 3-CD set was now available for pre-ordering, with an announced shipping date of July 3, the same date the set would be released to retail stores. However, some copies were shipped before that, the earliest being June 26, the date after Jackson's death.
The set was released digitally on iTunes on June 30. The release date has caused some controversy, as some people think Motown used this release as a quick cash-in after Jackson's death (it is the fourth such album to be released). This rumor was denied by fans, who said they were told in emails that the release date for iTunes had been set in advance.
