Heather Humphreys is an Irish Fine Gael politician and the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs since 2016. She was elected at the 2011 general election as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cavan–Monaghan constituency. She served as Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht from 2014 to 2016.
From Aghabog near Newbliss in County Monaghan, Humphreys was co-opted on to Monaghan County Council in 2003 and was twice re-elected in 2004 and 2009. She was elected as Mayor of Monaghan County Council in 2009. She was previously Chair of the Council's Strategic Policy Committee on Planning and Economic Development.
Humphreys was educated at St Aidan's Comprehensive School in Cootehill, County Cavan. She worked for a number of years with Ulster Bank. Prior to her election to Dáil Éireann she was Manager of Cootehill Credit Union.
She was appointed as Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in July 2014. She is the only Presbyterian member of the Oireachtas. On her role as minister in charge of the 2016 Easter Rising centenary celebrations, she said: "Given my background as a Protestant and an Ulsterwoman who is a proud Irish republican, I appreciate the need to respect the differing traditions on this island."
