Headed for the Future is the seventeenth studio album released by Neil Diamond in 1986. The album went to number 20 on the Billboard 200 and also heralded a return to the pop charts, when the uptempo, keyboard-heavy title track, "Headed for the Future" reached #53 (also cracking the top 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart). Another single, "The Story of My Life" narrowly missed the top ten on the adult contemporary charts and has since become one of Neil Diamond's best-known and well-respected songs. Headed for the Future has been certified gold in the US by the RIAA.
