The Haymarket Line was a proposed Virginia Railway Express extension of the Manassas Line that would connect Washington, D.C. to Haymarket, Virginia. The line would be extended from Manassas to Gainesville and Haymarket. The line began feasibility studies in 2015, and those studies concluded in 2017, with the hope that the line would open in 2022. It is included in the Constrained Long-Range Transportation Plan.
On March 17, 2017 the VRE Operations Board scrapped the plan due to cost. Instead they voted to expand the current station in Broad Run.
