Hart Township is a civil township of Oceana County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,026 at the 2000 census. The City of Hart is located within the township but is administratively autonomous.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.3 square miles (89 km2), of which, 33.9 square miles (88 km2) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) of it (0.99%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,026 people, 702 households, and 555 families residing in the township. The population density was 59.7 per square mile (23.1/km²). There were 853 housing units at an average density of 25.1 per square mile (9.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 89.44% White, 0.39% African American, 0.79% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 5.92% from other races, and 3.36% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.38% of the population.
There were 702 households out of which 36.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 16.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.11.
