Hanover Township is a civil township of Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,200 at the 2000 census.

The township is drained by the Manistee River, which crosses the township from east to southwest. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.2 square miles (94 km2), of which 36.0 square miles (93 km2) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) (0.47%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,200 people, 441 households, and 333 families residing in the township. The population density was 33.3 per square mile (12.9/km²). There were 639 housing units at an average density of 17.7 per square mile (6.8/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 95.25% White, 0.42% African American, 1.17% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 1.42% from other races, and 1.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.17% of the population.

There were 441 households out of which 36.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.3% were non-families. 18.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.06.
